Ari's Tomb and Mikveh

Rabbi Isaac Luria (1534-1572), the Ari left his mark deeply on Safed and on Kabbalah through his mystic work, the Zohar. The Ari’s Mikveh is built around a spring near the upper entrance to Safed’s old cemetery. His tomb, with its glass-enclosed eternal flame, is down the hill, and nearby is the tomb of his son, Rabbi Moshe Luria. A tree growing from that tomb is hung with prayer notes. On the Ari’s death date, the fifth of the Hebrew month of Av, a huge ceremony is held at his tomb.
